Someone or something that is situated or movingamong a group of things or people is surrounded by them.

2.与…在一起;在…的集体之中
If you areamong people of a particular kind, you are with them and having contact with them.

among, amid

这两个介词均可表示“在…之中”。其区别在于:

1.among只接复数名词、表人集体名词、复数意义的代词；而amid除此之外还可接单数名词和不可数名词。

2.among表同质关系；而amid表异质关系。例如：

她被发现置身于死人之间。

She was found among the dead. (她是死人)

She was found amid the dead. (她是活人)

3.among表示一事物游离于一个整体之外，易于分辨出来；而amid表示一事物融入一个整体之中，不易分辨出来。

4.among往往用于好的、有利的情况；而 amid 往往用于不好的、不利的情况。

among, amongst

amongst是among的变体形式,除了特别考虑语音因素之外,在现代英语中已较少使用,尤其在美国不用amongst,一般说来,凡是用amongst的场合均可用among替代。

among, between

这两个介词都可表示“在…之间”。其区别在于:among一般表示在三个或三个以上的人或事物之间,这些人或事物往往构成一个集合体; 而between一般表示在两个人或事物之间, between用来指在三者或三者以上的人或事物之间时,往往强调一方与其他诸方各自之间的关系。

among, in

这两个介词都可表示“在”“在…里〔上〕”。其区别在于:among往往强调处于同类人或事物当中,因而常与复数名词或着重于个体的集体名词连用; in往往强调人或事物所处的位置或环境,因而常与单数名词或着重于整体环境的集体名词连用。

among，between，amid，amongst

这些前置词均含“在……之间，在……之中”之意。

among指三者或三者以上的同类事物之间。

between多指两者之间，但现代英语中也可指三者或三者以上，表示彼此间清楚的的个体关系。

amid正式用词，侧重指在某个地方的中间或被某个东西包围着或在非同类人中间。

amongst与among同义，是among的变体。一般说来among总能替代amongst,而amongst则不然。
